GorkaMorka: Red Gobbo Conversion

For Da Revolushun!

Over the last few weeks, we have been excited about greenskins in various forms, from painting a longsnout, to discussing the upcoming editions of Warhammer 40,000 featuring new Ork models, to playing Space Gits. Sadly, our blog has not focused on the more diminutive grots and gretchin, despite our love for them, particularly the late 90s-era GorkaMorka grots. We realized we had an opportunity to change this when we found a resin cast of the Red Gobbo (a Rebel Grot special character from the GorkaMorka Digganob expansion) that we made when we started to create one-piece silicon molds. Resin is a lot easier to work with than metal, so we decided it would be fun to convert the Red Gobbo and showcase them here on the blog!

I downsized the slugga held by the Red Gobbo, aiming to transform it into a MAC-10-like submachine gun.

After replacing the gun’s barrel, I trimmed out an ejection port on the pistol's side and added a charging slide on the top. Using modeling putty, I also extended the magazine in the weapon's grip.

A closer view of the details added to the slugga, including the charging port and sights.

I reworked the Red Gobbo’s characteristic club. I replaced the weapon’s half with a brass tube and added newer, smaller plastic skulls.

Using a pin vise, plasticard, and modeling putty, I replaced one of the Red Gobbo’s missing teeth. The more teeth, the better in GorkaMorka!

I took special effort to reduce the thickness of the Red Gobbo’s jacket tails; a task made considerably easier by using a resin cast of the original metal model. As with many older models, the capes and other flowing pieces were made much thicker than needed (likely for casting purposes and stability on the tabletop).

I opted to give the Red Gobbo a pair of boots taken from the new plastic Trench Crusade Prussian Strosstruppen kit. A trusty pair of boots should serve the Red Gobbo well in the desert. Along with the boots, I sculpted some pants on the model, too.

With new Space Ork models being released, we are excited about new gretchin models and the possibility to use them to create more Rebel Grots to join the Gretchin Revolutionary Committee!
