In this episode we are joined by Bill Ford, host of Mordheim 2022, to talk about the Vastarian: Dreams of the Pious Open Invitational we recently started on Between the Bolter and Me. We describe the Vastarian setting, and how it is filled with warring Imperial cults, each certain their own ideology will usher in a new age of prosperity for the Imperium. We talk about how Mordheim and Inquisitor influenced the setting and how it offers a way to continue to expand the Church of the Red Athenæum, after Iron Sleet’s Pilgrym event. We also talk about how the writing of Thomas Ligotti shaped aspects of the setting, as well as make some musical suggestions to put you in the right mindset for diving into the setting yourself!

Hey Guys. Just a quick spelling note: it's VASTARIEN, not VASTARIAN. No worries--common error. But I thought you'd want to know.
ReplyDeleteWe specifically changed the spelling to be different from Thomas Ligotti's short story to distance it from his creation and the literary journal of the same name created by Jon Padgett of Grimscribe press. Thank you for pointing it out though!
DeleteGood episode guys - very interesting and I like the ideas of the setting. If I can think of some ideas to do some figures in an old school way without buying anything new I may even try to make a few myself just for fun - I have always liked the lore of Inquisitors and psykers and the Administratum and most important for this project, the Ecclesiarchy. Over the years I have collected a few figures intended for Inqusitorial retinues and so on but I have only painted a small amount of them so far. OR maybe I will just use it as an excuse to paint some of my Necromunda models!
