Oldhammer: Olden Demon 2022 Dark Angel

Space Marines have come a long way since the 80's!

I selected a Rogue Trader Space Marine for chilvers_industries upcoming Olden Demon 2022 painting competition. Although I wanted to start painting the model weeks ago, it took me a while to find a 2nd edition style backpack for the model. Eventually I was successful in getting one via eBay and was able to start painting! I decided to paint the model to fit alongside the other Dark Angels I have been painting over the last year or so. Although the scale is quite different to new models, with a similar paint scheme, I figured the model would fit in, and be a good testament to how GW models have changed over the years!

Like my other Dark Angels, I painted the Space Marine's armor via dry-brushing, using Caliban Green and Game Color Glacier Blue.

This was the first Space Marine miniature I ever purchased, happily in a new coat of paint!

The model has various mechanical boxes on their waist that I painted using several Vallejo Metal Color silvers.

  1. Wow that looks great! Somehow the color seems brighter than on the primaris space marine, but that may just be because the panels are all so much smaller and have less surface detail (and yet for the most part, just enough)

When the new Mark VI plastics are released, it would be interesting to see one built into this pose as a comparison.

    1. Thank you! I do plan to paint one of the new ones to compare it too.

The models is a little brighter than the others, largely due to the smaller size and flat pose, which doesn't take to my method of drybrushing as well. I should have had the painted ones out for reference when I was painting this one, ha ha.
