Dragged into Turbolasers Episode 44: Nova Open Previews

More Sisters of Battle 3d renders!

Right on the heels of Warhammer Fest 2018, Games Workshop visited Nova Open 2018 and revealed a host of new models and other announcements. First, we talk about more details on the Speed Freeks game and a new Ork warboss model. We also discuss new 3d renders of the upcoming Sisters of Battle release. Additional details were also given for the second Warhammer Underworlds game, Nightvault, and we discuss some of the new models. Finally, we speculate on what the newest Warhammer Quest game will be like, called Blackstone Fortress.

  1. I agree with your comments baout the Orks (though I like the 2nd ed Kev Adams versions best (before they became crude and Gorkamorka-ised); I think the issue is that everything was a bit comic in the 80s and 90s but only Orks stayed comical... and the humour of them (such as it is) has become more and more juvenile over the years.

I agree with your comments about the SoB heads... but would say the detail in plastics is not as good as metal, hence the "thick" hair. And no one does faces as well as Jes Goodwin, not even Darren Latham, but it is good to see some variety as you mention.

As for Turn Signals... maybe if you complained about GW less they would have just syndicated your podcast instead of making their own lol ;)

The Blackstone Fortress thing could be interesting... I'm cautiously optimistic.

    1. I agree that the 2nd edition orks had a better balance of comedy, and it has not really been maintained well. New Ork models I really like will be the exception rather than the norm I suspect.

Goodwin really is good with faces. It is a shame he does not scuplt much anymore. I suspect they would want him to transition to digital, which would be a lot to learn after spending his life doing it the more traditional way.

We are far too critical for GW to ever really support us, but maybe some people from the company see our blog from time to time or listen to the podcast?! It will be interesting to see what this official 40k podcast will be like though.

    2. Your models were featured in White Dwarf... I imagine they have heard of your blog and podcast. ;) I actually believe GW staff and developers widely read/listen to hobbyists on the internet. It was more of a (well natured) joke to suggest GW would (directly) support you guys but hopefully they listen to what you say!

    3. Yeah, I think you are right that GW staff likely does pay attention to blogs and social media. The company as a whole has started to engage with the community more too :D

  2. Excellent as always guys. I fully agree with your comments on the orks and the way they have been handled since the range was done by Brian Nelson. I legitimately laughed out loud at the readings of Jake's tweets, they sum up how ridiculous thing shave become very well. I think the new Adeptus Sororitas head sculpts are a step in the right direction but still not as far as I would like to see them go. I am almost certain I won't be picking any of the models up regardless but it is still a step up from what I was expecting.
