Ossiarch Bonereaper Challenge: Eldar

Rogue Trader Era Eldar - Tony Hough

The Polysmith built an Eldar Gladiator a little while back that captures some of the alien weirdness of the Eldar that was present in the old Rogue Trader imagery. Its elongated limbs really help to illustrate that it is not just a human with an oversized helmet, but a truly alien creature. Ever since seeing that model, we have wanted to try our hands at creating a model in the same spirit, but were not sure where to start. When the Ossiarch Bonereapers were released for Age of Sigmar, it occurred to us that they would be a great, albeit unconventional, basis for such an Eldar conversion. The bone warriors would allow for us to create armor that looked organic and ossified, as if made from wraithbone.

A look back: Notable Hobbyists of 2019

Earlier this month, we looked back at all of the models that we worked on over the course of 2019. And while this is always fun to consider how we evolved as hobbyists over the year, our favorite thing to reflect on is the hobbyists that inspired us during the year. We say it each time, but the quality of work being produced by the community keeps getting better and better. The sheer volume of impressive hobbyists makes it impossible for us to acknowledge everyone, but we wanted to focus on a few that really stood out to us during 2019. We intentionally did not choose hobbyists that we have featured in previous years, so we would encourage you to look back on our selections from years past (2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014), as many of them are still actively producing incredible work!

Dragged into Turbolasers Episode 67: Chatting with Dark_Tech_

Dark_Tech_ helped bring Chaos to Gelida!

In this episode, we talk with Dark_Tech_, a purveyor of the dour and grim, and one of the most prominent voices in the Inq28 movement. We talk about his return to the hobby with the release of the Adeptus Mechanicus, and how that range’s versatility led him to pursue more and more adventurous conversions. His work with numerous Inq28 events at Adepticon is discussed, along with what people can do to get involved themselves. We also talk about his involvement in the Gelida: the Frozen Expanse, discussing how he followed up Magos_Buer's (Episode 63) initial event with his own.

Between the Bolter and Me: 2019, a year in review

Marching on to 2020!

2019 marked the end of the decade, and 7 full years of Between the Bolter and Me as a blog! The year was defined by the Mordheim 2019 event, with a large number of our posts detailing the creation of our warbands and the event itself. We did a lot of other smaller projects as well, including painting a host of models created by some of our favorite artists (Ana Polanscak and Helge Wilhelm Dahl). We continued to do live streaming on Twitch and YouTube, resulting in some of our best episodes of Dragged into Turbolasers with guests like Weirding Way and Modern Synthesist. With this post, we wanted to review everything we did in 2019!
