Godling: Recap

Last weekend (January 29-31, 2026), the interactive miniature art exhibit Godling, hosted by Martin McCoy (martin.mccoy.art), Shane Brockway (7he_blindman), and Joe Aquilina (armageddon_bound), was shown at the Selva Gallery in Brooklyn, New York City. In addition to creating a piece for the show, I was fortunate to travel to Brooklyn for a few days to see the opening, spend time with good friends, and meet new ones. I wanted to share some photos from the trip, including a picture of each piece of art on display at the exhibit.

Although delayed for almost two hours, I was able to take an Amtrak train from Baltimore to New York City.

Shortly before the opening of the Godling exhibit, Tim and Martin finished some last-minute installations.

There was a small plinth in the gallery where I could set my projector. I was happy to see that my slides displayed quite well, despite the well-lit room.

The gallery space in Selva was packed on the opening night of the Godling exhibit, with people excitedly chatting and looking at the pieces displayed on the walls.

Steaming Woodlands played an evocative set at Selva on the opening night, helping create a suitable mood for the show.

I saw so many friends at the Godling exhibit. From left to right, top to bottom: Sterling (@sterlingxfrost), Gage (@noclearcoat), Terry (@stone.jaw), Steve (@sovthofheaven), and Witty (@wittlegoblin).

Brooklyn was still encrusted with snow, unsurprising since the temperature never rose above 16°F.

I stayed at a Vrbo with Martin, Shane, Eli, Kelly, Tyler, and Amber. It was not particularly well furnished or comfortable, but it did have a record player and a questionable array of old records. The highlight was the discovery of the American pop rock band Cock Robin, which became a running joke throughout the weekend.

Shane reflecting (perhaps) on how the Godling exhibit was proceeding.

On Friday afternoon, many of the people who came for the show met at OS NYC, a gaming cafe and bar to play Mario Kart, board games, and Magic: The Gathering.

When walking through Chinatown, I was pleased to see people marching in protest against ICE and advocating for the freedom of Palestine.

  1. What an absolutely perfect capture of this awesome gallery show. Can't really explain how nice it was to see so much work from friends in an absolutely PACKED opening night. Would love to see this happening all over the community.
